Room Seven Was Decommissioned in 2019. It's Still Resetting Itself.
The following is an internal chat log from FrightNight Escape Rooms, a mid-sized escape room company with locations in two cities. It was shared with us by a former employee who asked that real names be replaced with initials. Timestamps are accurate; some unrelated small talk has been trimmed.

J.R. 11:47 PM anybody know why room 7 shows up on the motion sensor panel tonight. thought that whole wing got decommissioned
M.K. 11:52 PM it did, years before I started here. "The Cellar" I think it was called. Props malfunction during a test run, somebody got hurt, nothing crazy, a prop wall came loose and clipped a guy's shoulder. Company sealed it instead of fixing it, cheaper that way apparently, and it's been off the booking system ever since
J.R. 11:53 PM weird that they'd seal a whole room over one wall. we fix stuff like that all the time in the other rooms
M.K. 11:53 PM that's what I thought too honestly. always figured there was more to it than what we got told, but it's not really my business and I've never cared enough to dig into it
J.R. 11:53 PM ok but why is it showing motion then. that whole room's been powered down since before I got hired
M.K. 11:54 PM no idea. probably a sensor glitch, the panel's ancient. I'll flag it for Dave tomorrow
J.R. 12:31 AM still triggering. every 20 min or so, same sensor, zone 7B. walked past the hallway just now and the door's got that heavy chain on it like always, nothing weird visually
J.R. 1:02 AM ok this is going to sound stupid but I just checked the panel again and 7B logged a trigger and then, like, a second one eight seconds later, in a totally different part of the room. 7B and then 7D almost immediately after. that's not how one person walking around would trigger it, that's two separate points basically at once
J.R. 1:03 AM actually checking the full history now. four separate zones triggered in sequence over the last ten minutes, 7A through 7D, almost evenly spaced out. kind of looks like four people walking around in there at the same time if I'm reading this right, which, again, I know how that sounds
M.K. 1:04 AM probably just the sensor glitching in a new way. go home dude, your shift ended twenty minutes ago
J.R. 1:05 AM yeah heading out. just wanted it on record lol

D. (Manager) 9:14 AM saw the log from last night, had maintenance pull the panel history going back a few months. room 7 has been triggering motion sensors on and off for a while actually, nobody flagged it because nobody's really watching that wing, it's not in the normal rotation
D. (Manager) 9:15 AM I'm going to go take a look myself this afternoon, mostly just to rule out an actual wiring issue before we spend money on an electrician
T.W. 9:41 AM I worked the opening crew back when that room was still live, for what it's worth. the "props malfunction" everybody talks about wasn't really just a wall coming loose. the final puzzle in that room involved a false floor panel and a mannequin rigged to move when you solved the last clue, jump-scare style. during the test run the mannequin ended up somewhere it wasn't supposed to be, is how I remember it being explained to us at the time, and nobody really wanted to go into detail beyond that
D. (Manager) 9:43 AM that's not in any of the incident paperwork I've seen
T.W. 9:44 AM yeah, there's a reason for that. I just remember being told not to ask more about it, and being a 19 year old who needed the paycheck, I didn't
T.W. 9:46 AM one more thing I just remembered actually. the test group that was in there when it happened, there were supposed to be four of them. only three came out and signed the incident statement. I always figured the fourth one just left early or something, nobody made a big deal of it at the time, but typing it out now it feels like a stranger detail than I ever gave it credit for
D. (Manager) 9:51 AM I'm going to need you to say more about that when I'm back in the office
D. (Manager) 2:52 PM went in. wanted to put this in writing while it's fresh.
room matches old blueprints mostly, except it's bigger than it should be. not by a huge amount, maybe an extra four or five feet along the back wall, but I walked it off and compared to the schematic in our files and the numbers don't line up. no visible reason for the extra space, no additional structure I could find on the outside of the building that would account for it either.
went out to the service corridor afterward and checked the exterior wall from that side too, just to rule out some gap in the blueprints themselves. there isn't enough building back there for the extra space to physically exist. the corridor wall and the room's back wall should be close to touching according to every measurement we have on file. they're not even close.
the puzzle table's a whole other thing. it's set up exactly the way it appears in our old promotional photos, same keys sitting in the same order, same clue cards still hanging on the same hooks. maintenance logs confirm nobody's been in that room doing setup work in years, and dust on literally everything else in there says the same thing. just not on the table.
the mannequin's still there. in the false floor panel area, like T.W. described. its head is turned toward the entrance instead of fixed forward toward the puzzle table the way it's shown in our old promotional photos. I checked the neck joint myself afterward out of curiosity more than anything. the mechanism in that model doesn't rotate. never did, not in any version of this room we ever built.
I didn't stay long. locking it back up properly this time, new chain, and I'm pulling the breaker to that whole wing at the main panel instead of just the room switch, in case that's somehow related to the sensor activity.
T.W. 3:10 PM facing the entrance is new. it used to face the puzzle table, you're right, I remember setting it up that way myself back when the room was live
M.K. 3:15 PM genuinely asking, are we going to actually deal with this or just keep locking the door tighter and hoping
D. (Manager) 3:20 PM I don't have a better plan right now honestly. demo crew quoted us an absurd amount for that wing specifically, something about the room needing extra structural assessment before they'd even give a flat quote, which I don't love hearing
#ops-overnight
J.R. 12:14 AM breaker's pulled, whole wing's dark, and the panel's still logging motion in room 7. that shouldn't be possible if the sensors aren't getting power at all
J.R. 12:40 AM walked down there again. door's chained same as always. but I can hear something from inside, real faint, sounds like the puzzle table's electronic lock cycling, that little clicking sound it makes when someone's entering numbers on it. that panel's also supposed to be dead with the breaker pulled
M.K. 12:42 AM don't go in there alone
J.R. 12:43 AM not planning to. just standing in the hallway right now
J.R. 1:15 AM clicking stopped. room's logging a trigger right at the spot where the mannequin's supposed to be positioned, has been for the last ten minutes straight, steady, like something's just standing there not moving
J.R. 1:16 AM D. said it's facing the entrance now instead of the puzzle table. I'm standing at the entrance
D. (Manager) 8:02 AM pulled last night's full log before anyone else gets in this morning. I want everyone reading this to actually read it, not skim it.
sensor activity stopped completely at 1:16 AM. nothing since. not a single trigger in that zone for the rest of the night, first full quiet stretch since this started.
J.R. didn't show up for his shift handoff this morning. not answering calls. I drove to his apartment on my way in, his car's in the lot, nobody answered the door.
I'm not putting anything else in writing right now beyond that. calling the police next, then going back to check the room myself before anyone else comes near that wing today.
T.W. 8:19 AM D. don't go in there alone either
D. (Manager) 8:21 AM not planning to. waiting for someone to get here first.
M.K. 8:24 AM on my way now
D. (Manager) 8:40 AM mannequin's gone from the false floor panel. not moved, not knocked over. the space where it's bolted down is just empty, bolts still there, nothing attached to them.
the room measures correctly now. I checked. back wall's exactly where the blueprints say it should be, no extra four or five feet anymore.
I don't know what that means and I don't want to guess at it in writing. M.K. is almost here. we're not touching anything else until the police arrive.
We're not continuing to post further updates from the internal channel, out of respect for an ongoing situation that's no longer just a strange story to the people involved. The former employee who shared this log with us asked that we include one final note before ending it here: as of this posting, the room has since been fully demolished, at considerable cost, and the company has not reopened that wing of the building.
They also mentioned, almost as an afterthought when we asked if there was anything else worth including, that the old incident paperwork from years ago has since been located in storage. It lists four signatures on the original test group roster, same as T.W. remembered. Three of those names match real employees, guests, and public records without any trouble. The fourth name doesn't appear in any government database, social media archive, school record, or census entry the company's lawyers could find, and nobody on staff has ever been able to confirm that person existed at all.
According to the company's own internal booking records, however, that same name shows up as a returning guest to Room Seven six separate times over the two years after the room was supposedly sealed for good.
This story is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real people, places, or events is purely coincidental and created for entertainment purposes only.
Would you have gone down that hallway alone to check, or waited for backup the way D. did? Tell me in the comments.💬💬
